I hope that everyone is enjoying the summer! Teachers have been in making plans for the year, and some of our Student Ambassadors have been in helping to plan part of summer orientation.
Summer orientation is just two weeks away, on August 10 and 11, and is for ALL students - new and returning.
August 10 we will be at DRSS from 8:15-3:15. Students can be dropped off as early as 7:45 and must be picked up by 4:00. Students will be receiving their schedules for the year, participating in some games and design challenges with their advisories, as well as participating in the activities that our returning students have designed. Lunch will be provided by Smokin' Joes (our caterer for school lunches again this year) and there is no charge for lunch on August 10.
August 11 will be at Wright State University, also from 8:15-3:15. Students can be dropped off as early as 7:45 and must be picked up by 4:00 (no supervision after this time). Drop off and pick up will be in front of the Student Union (see a map of campus at http://www.wright.edu/aboutwsu/maps/). Students will be doing a low ropes course on campus, a geocaching experience, and getting their Wright One cards. Tenth grade students will also be visiting the School of Medicine. Lunch will NOT be provided that day. The two options for students are to pack a lunch, OR plan on buying lunch at the student union (be sure to bring cash to pay for lunch). Students need to wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes - no flip flops. They also need to bring water bottles and sun screen on the 11th.
All students will need an Emergency Medical Authorization (EMA) form filled out when they are dropped off on August 10. Students who need Medication will need to have a medication form filled out as well. Both the EMA and the Medication form apply to all new AND returning students. Even if you filled one out last year, we need a new one on file. Finally, we need all NEW students to complete a Photo Release form, as we would like to have permission to take photos and video of students throughout the school year. Please download and print the forms at http://www.daytonstemschool.org/index.php?page=forms and fill them out before August 10.
Looking forward to seeing all of our students on August 10.

The Dinner Plate Project that DRSS students completed in the Spring of 2010 was highlighted in the July edition of EdNews, a monthly newsletter from PBS and ThinkTV. This project was part of students' social studies AND art credits at DRSS.
